 TEACHING

Trudy Craney is particularly valuable to me as my voice teacher, because I have recently entered the cabaret world in NYC. My education has been in classical music, my voice is a high soprano. Trudy has endless ways of leading me into a technique that will let me access my lower voice into lovely tones I never knew I had, while maintaining and improving my top range as well. She has the very special talent of an excellent “ear” for pitch and tone, and simply won’t give up on a problem. Her approach is kind and encouraging.

Trudy has been in love with the human voice since childhood! Her 55 years of vocal study (notably, with Sebastian Engelberg, Myron McPherson, Dr. Elizabeth Vrenios), coupled with a 25 year career in opera, continued rigorous practicing and performing to this day, and a passion for vocal technique, have made her work as a teacher highly effective. Her students learn how to ‘set up’ their instrument; they also gain clear instruction about what ‘ breath support’ means in a manner that is reproducible. She works with both classical singers and jazz artists and has taught singing for 25 years, maintaining a studio on Manhattan's Upper West Side and on Long Island's East End in Springs.

To those who are seeking the truth regarding the mechanics of the singing voice: even daily dedicated practice will not correct intonation, misconceptions of inhalation/exhalation if the singer does not receive the right information from a trusted person. Gifted with a special set of ears, Ms. Trudy Craney is that rare artist, who sings exquisitely and diagnoses/corrects voice issues exactly.
